Safety & Education
Safety is a top priority for Grant PUD – your safety and the safety of our employees. Our workforce demonstrates commitment to safe practices both on and off the job. You and your family can educate yourselves here about electrical and recreational safety and learn about Grant PUD, the Priest Rapids Project, public power principles and clean, renewable hydropower.
Safety
Grant PUD reminds you to practice electrical safety in all areas of your life . . . home, office, outdoors and on worksites. Our Electrical Safety information provides numerous tips as well as emergency procedures.
As operators of Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams, we are also concerned about public safety in and along Columbia River recreation areas. Please review the Recreational Safety information to ensure full enjoyment of the many opportunities offered within the Priest Rapids Project.
Education
Dams on the Columbia River system provide power generation, irrigation, flood control, navigation and recreation benefits to residents and visitors. Hydroelectric projects on the Columbia River are part of the largest source of renewable, reliable and low-cost electricity in the nation. Hydropower supplies 80 percent of the electricity needed to sustain the economy and livelihood of the Pacific Northwest. While six of the 11 Columbia River dams in Washington are owned by the United States government and operated by Bonneville Power Association, locally owned utilities such as Grant PUD operate the remaining five. Information in this section will help you gain knowledge about public power and the foresight of the Grant County residents who established a customer-owned utility in 1938.
Educator & Parent Resources
Dedication to the benefits of public power, the renewable capacity of hydropower and the assets of the Priest Rapids Project inspire our commitment to share additional information with young and old alike. Links to Educational Resources will provide activities and information for everyone.
